My First Clock
I happened upon this clock building hobby by accident. A friend of mine sent me a photo of a clock he had stumbled upon while surfing the internet. The comment that he made was "The guy that built this must be insane". Well call me insane, I was totally amazed at the detail and craftsmanship in these clocks, and decided that I HAVE TO BUILD ONE. I also became fascinated with how these works of art actually work. I realized we all take for granted all of the hard work that our predecessors, many of them centuries ago, put into engeneering these machines that wake us in the morning and tell us when it's time to go home in the evening.On this page I am not going to try to tell you how to design and build a clock. I am in no way qualified, I will leave that up to the generous folks who have written the web sites that you will find when you follow the links on this page. Depending on how involved you want to get you will find links where you can buy kits, or if you want to cut your own wheels there are many places where plans are avalable. By studying what these sites have to offer, if you are so inclined you will eventually be able to design and build your very own original.

This is a clock named the "Bird of Paradise", a design by Clayton Boyer.
Clayton is a master of clock design. Please take the time to
visit his site. I highly reccomend his designs; Clayton's plans are
very detailed. His plans contain both a detailed bill of materials and
easy
to understand assembly instructions.
